Integrity & Craftspersonship

My Story

I am a woman in the furniture-making world. My name is Kim McIntyre. I love the creative problem solving that goes into woodworking. I also thrive on the quest for perfection while working in partnership with the natural beauty of the wood. I care deeply about every piece/project I make and do my best to provide quality craftsmanship from start to finish. I am honored to have gained a reputation for my integrity, honesty, and the hard work that goes into my craft.

After more than a decade of honing this craft, I have decided to take a leap of faith and dive more fully into doing the work I love. With that it in mind, I started McIntyre Furniture, LLC with the goal of making a modest living by creating beautiful, functional, sustainable furniture that people can feel proud to make a part of their home for generations.
I am also growing my business in green ways. I seek to buy sustainably harvested lumber from reputable distributers. I am committed to using earth friendly (non-toxic and low VOC) finishes.

Prior to apprenticing as a woodworker and attending furniture-making school, I worked as an Outward Bound instructor for six years. I led wilderness expeditions ranging from 4-50 days with just about every age group and population you can imagine. From alpine backpacking in Montana, to dog sledding and cross-country skiing in Minnesota, I have slept more than 1,000 nights under the stars. I feel blessed to have spent that much time outdoors and in nature as it made my soul very happy. Now as I handcraft furniture, I seek to bring my love and respect of nature to others via the natural beauty of wood.

Other fun facts about me...

Other fun facts about me…

I really value quality time whether it is with: family (I’m one of 6 kids, plus I have a ton of nephews and nieces), my wife, friends, playing board games, walking the dogs, xc skiing, or grand backpacking adventures.
Relationships truly matter to me.
Integrity drives me.
I value taking care of the Earth.
Dogs bring me great pleasure! And I’m so excited to finally have my own woodshop that my two dogs can join me in everyday.
Winter is my favorite season. More snow = all the better!
I love wearing big sweaters and dressing in layers.
I live in Bellevue, WA (the Seattle area) with my wife and our dogs. My wood shop is on our property.  The house is close to a huge green belt that has big trees, a stream and hiking paths.

I bought this box as a birthday present for my wife, to be an elegant holder and organizer for her tea collection. I thought it looked quite nice in the picture.

I was very pleased when the package arrived. It was earlier than expected--in time for the birthday--and the box was more beautiful than in the picture. It is extremely functional.

The craftmanship is evident and excellent. I fully expect to get decades of use out of this.

This tea box is gorgeous. The craftsmanship is truly remarkable. It's just the right size to fit my daughter's sizable tea stash, and it's beautiful enough to put on display. The box itself is sturdy, smooth, and flawless. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend McIntyre Furniture to anyone looking to purchase a tea box or a custom wood piece. I could not be happier.
